Nothing says southern elegance like a New Orleans Destination Wedding, This is the story of how a couple from Washington D.C. traveled to the deep south to become one in a dream celebration of style and love. Nestled in the grand old trees of Southern Oaks Plantation, this wedding was a vision of vintage perfection.
This wonderful couple, Bridgette and Jamar, contacted me to do their destination engagement session here in New Orleans. After being blown away with their images, they asked me if I’d be their wedding photographer. I was so humbled and honored to accept, that I couldn’t wait to continue this journey with them.
The day of the wedding started off with bridal prep at the Hyatt French Quarter Hotel. Bridgette’s style for her look was executed flawlessly! Gorgeous shades of cream, peach and gold where in every accessory detail. Make up was done by the talented Arjia Thomas. All the ladies, bride and bridesmaids, wore a beautiful face of soft, classic colors. All the dainty up-do hairstyles where preformed by stylist Brooke O’Dell. After hair and make up, the bridesmaids slipped into their coordinating dresses of a lovely shade of coral and awaited the bride. She adorned a stunning ivory lace Maggio Sottero gown and was a stunning vision of classic beauty. With finishing touches of a birdcage veil and her Betsy Johnson bridal clutch, she was all ready to become Mrs. Dowsey! Down on the famous Canal Street, the couple saw each other for the first time before the ceremony. It was smiles as they exchanged gifts and stopped to take pictures together and with the bridal party. Then, they were off to Southern Oaks to make #DowseyIDo a reality.
The plantation was lit up all a glow with fairy lights, making it seem like a million fireflies were twinkling around the outdoor ceremony space. Decorated in ivory floral arrangements with touches of crystal and glass lanterns, it was a picture perfect setting. The bride walked down the aisle accompanied by her father, holding a large bouquet of fall colored flowers. Looking very dashing in his navy suit, the groom patiently awaited to give his heart fully to his soon-to-be wife. After the vows were said and the kiss was given, the couple turned around to be greeted as Mr. and Mrs. Dowsey in a shower of streamers and the music of a New Orleans brass band. Now, it was time to celebrate, NOLA style!
The reception space was decked out with gold dining seating with blush table clothes, all focused around stunning, tall floral centerpieces. Guest made there way into the space passing an array of personal touches from the bride and groom, including a gallery sized picture from their engagement session with us. The food was a menu of traditional New Orleans cuisine, including Bri’s favorite, the shrimp and grits. After dinner and signature cocktails, it was time to hit the dance floor. Guests looked on as the couple took their first dance as man and wife to Chrisette Michelle’s, A Couple of Forevers. Shortly after the sweet dancing, the party started to heat up, especially during the groom’s garter retrieval dance. Shirtless and stuntin, Jamar wowed his bride, and everyone else, with his moves. The celebration went on through the night with lots of laughter, togetherness and a whole lot of getting down!
As the night came to an end, the umbrellas came out and the second line dance began. This New Orleans destination wedding could not end without a second line. While everyone joined in, the couple was sent off in the most flamboyant of ways.
Please join me in congratulating this lucky couple on their marriage. Thank you Bridgette and Jamar for allowing me to be part of your wedding!
